Born and raised in South India, Dhivya is inspired and influenced by her heritage. Growing up in India, visits to a “Tailor” were commonplace and was filled with excitement, anticipation and little bit of fear (in case they botched up your design/fabric!) But the thrill of being handed a beautifully finished garment that you helped design is unparalleled! DHIVYA BALA is a made-to-measure atelier and eponymous fashion label of designer Dhivya Balasubramanian started with the intent of bringing all thats wonderful about the art of Dressmaking to the modern woman.

She reinvented her career at the age of 30 by going back to fashion school in San Francisco and is trained in the French style of pattern making, draping and design. Post design school she took on a coveted three month internship at Marchesa in New York City. A Dressmaker and Mom since 2013, she took on both roles from her home in Seattle, Wa! As of 2019 you can find her designing and creating in her newly established brick-and-mortar design studio and atelier in the Queen Anne neighborhood of Seattle, WA!

She loves Indian history, culture and traditions and is always in the quest of its re-interpretation so it fits into this  global and changing world.

"My creations are my interpretations of the dual, conflicting, 'east-meets-west' world that I inhabit!"
